Also, transfer the SuperSU ZIP file to the internal storage of your device.

How is this done? It does not appear to be a fastboot command. And the android file system does not show up as a USB drive from the filemanager so it can’t be dragged and dropped. What am I missing?

I did not. I saw an option elsewhere to install the root support and that worked.

Did you have encryption enabled by any chance?

Do I need to do a full wipe and start over?

You can apply the OTA using TWRP recovery.

Thank you! I have rooted many devices, but always get nervous. Any danger to the rooting prices itself? Adb and fastboot were made by Android, right? I’m using android tools on its android flagship device. Not like a 3rd party hack or tool like Odin for Samsung?

Yes, you will have to manually install every new update. Plus if you install Franco or any other custom kernel, you will have to flash back the stock system image before you can install the OTA manually.
